  • I'm deep in the technology world

Yes..I'm deep into the technology world and have come here kicking and screaming. My reasons for finally having a blog is to talk about DOGS. I am a big part of the Fairbanks Alaska mushing and skijoring world that works with many dogs from the borough...

  • the 3 skijoring dogs

So someone has already said "Carol you are going to talk about dogs yet you said nothing about the 3 dogs in the picture!" so here goes. Chanel: front left in the picture. Chanel was one of only 2 dogs that I got as actual puppies. She was a...

  • No poop in this dog yard

In my opinion one of the most critical areas of dog care is scooping all that "stuff" that comes out the non feeding end. Most sled dogs in Alaska are kept on chains. They have no choice but to go to the bathroom where they live. If you have...

  • "Hurricane" Ivan

ME? Sweet little Ivan? That is what his face always seems to say. We had this boy here as a foster for a month before he went on to his new home in Kodiak. Ivan got a along with every dog. He loves to play and is full of energy and happiness. BUT...he...

  • raining vegetables

Count them! 22 dogs in the picture....all vying for the veggies being thrown off the deck by Don. You can see pieces in the air. My dogs LOVE vegetables. They also love grass, dandelions and young fireweed. I believe in feeding a diet that is rich in...

  • House Calls

It is wonderful having a traveling vet here in the Fairbanks area. Minor surgeries, spays and neuters, shots, check-ups etc. can all be done right out of your house! I think it is great for the dogs. They are in a familiar spot, their recovery time seems...

  • Don't Lick!!

I have always hated Elizabethan collars. The dogs are uncomfortable in them....they can't turn around in a crate or lay down comfortably with the "cone" surrounding their head. I will describe what we use for most of our dogs that have gone...

  • Onyx and her digestive problems

We have had Onyx for several years. Pretty much ever since she was rescued she has had a terrible problem with digestion and keeping weight on. This is part 1 of a blog which I am hoping that in the end will have a picture of her "fat" and healthy...

  • Onyx part 2

It has been several days since Onyx has been on her new diet. For the first time in the middle of the night she had a stool that was partially formed! YEAH. Her diet at the moment consists of this: 1) before each meal I mix 1 capsule (opened and sprinkled...

  • Onyx Part 3

A few changes in the last couple of days....when I first started this I really didn't want to use rice but felt that she needed some sort of "filler" to her lonely chicken. But I have cut that out now. I am putting 1/4 cup of soaked oat...

  • Onyx part 4

ARGHHHH. Learning every day and sometimes the lessons are extremely hard. Onyx had been doing well the last couple of days. Some formed stool, good energy and hopefully on the path to weight gain. But tonight I grabbed a bag of soy crumbles out of the...

  • Onyx update

For some reason the blog is not showing my full write up...you have to click on the heading to read it all.....(ummm except now this is all showing...) But here it the latest update. I am cautiously optimistic (and elated) that we may have solved some...

  • Onyx weight

She weighs 37.2 pounds this morning. Up from the low of 36. I have now established a set routine and may make small changes as we go along and I definitely will have to start feeding a more balanced diet....She is getting the Viokase-V with every meal...

  • More on Onyx

Sigh....after a couple of good days on the Viokase, Onyx went back to some bad blowouts. So I stopped the Viokase and back on the GI Cell Support and Digestin in each meal. She is still get a half of a pet tab a day and bone meal with her cooked chicken...

  • Winter Has Broken!

Well, summer 2009 was wonderful, full of dog yard projects, whitewater canoeing and kayaking, long walks with loose dogs, other activities, and too much work work. I got a lot done, but never enough. Carol thinks that all I did was move some dirt around...
